Home Renovation Interior Designers in Mylapore

Renovating in Mylapore often means working with homes that have decades of history: teak doors worth keeping, cement lofts that are not, wiring that predates air conditioners and families who cannot move out while work happens. Elixir's renovation designers begin by understanding the building before proposing a single cabinet.

Planning interiors in Mylapore

Chennai's cultural heart, where traditional homes, temple-street apartments and premium redevelopments share narrow lanes close to the Marina.

  • Many independent houses and older flats in Mylapore have solid teak doors, frames or almirahs. A good renovation plan decides which of these to restore and reuse before new carpentry is designed.
  • Older buildings here often have fewer sockets and wiring not sized for modern appliances. We plan electrical upgrades before carpentry so new units are not cut open later.
  • Damp patches on walls facing the sea breeze or near old bathrooms are common. These must be treated before wardrobes or panelling go up, or the problem returns behind new woodwork.
  • Narrow lanes and festival crowds near the temple can affect delivery and debris removal, so renovation schedules here are planned with access in mind.

Plan smarter

Five ways to keep your budget on track

  1. 01

    Insist on a site audit

Ask for walls, plumbing, electricals and damp to be inspected before any quote. Renovation estimates without a site audit tend to change midway.

  2. 02

    Decide what to keep early

List old furniture, doors or fittings you want to retain. Reuse decisions affect the design and are hard to reverse once demolition starts.

  3. 03

    Upgrade wiring before carpentry

Add sockets, AC points and a proper load check first. It is far cheaper than cutting into new cabinets later.

  4. 04

    Freeze the design before demolition

Changing plans after walls are opened adds cost and delay. Approve drawings fully before work begins.

  5. 05

Plan dust control for the household

If elders or children stay home, agree on room sequencing and dust barriers with the designer before work starts.

FAQ

Questions homeowners ask

Still unsure? Our designers are happy to answer anything on a call.

Can my old teak furniture be reused?

Often, yes. Solid teak doors, frames and almirahs can be polished, resized or integrated into the new design. The designer assesses their condition during the site audit.

Do I need to move out during renovation?

Not always. We can phase the work room by room so the family stays, though there will be some noise and dust. For extensive civil work, a short move may be more comfortable.

Why is a site audit needed before quoting?

Older Mylapore homes can hide damp, weak plaster or old wiring. Inspecting first keeps the estimate realistic and avoids surprises once work begins.

Are civil repairs included in the package ranges?

No. The package ranges cover interiors. Demolition, damp treatment, rewiring and flooring are estimated separately after the audit.

How long does a renovation take?

It depends on the civil scope. Factory production of carpentry typically takes 15–20 working days after design approval, but repair work before it varies from home to home.
