Our approach
How we handle budget home interior projects
What we plan for
- Must-have versus good-to-have scope
- Room-wise budget allocation
- Durable base finishes
- Future-ready additions that can be phased later
What drives the cost
- Scope discipline
- Standard versus premium finishes
- Open shelves versus closed storage
- Whether civil changes are avoided or included
Materials we recommend
- Use proven laminate finishes for value and durability
- Spend more on hardware in daily-use cabinets
- Keep specialty surfaces limited to focal areas
- Choose standard module sizes where possible
Mistakes to avoid
- Cutting hardware quality before decorative extras
- Adding too many small custom units
- Starting without a phased budget plan
- Choosing materials only by showroom appearance

Planning interiors in OMR
Chennai's IT corridor, lined with tech parks and large gated communities, where most homes are new apartments bought by IT professionals.
- In new corridor flats, walls, flooring and electrical points are already in place, which means a budget can go almost entirely into carpentry rather than repairs.
- Builder-provided kitchen platforms and bathroom fittings in many towers are usable, and keeping them is one of the simplest ways to keep a first-phase budget lean.
- Since many owners plan to move in soon after handover, phasing is common here: kitchen and wardrobes first, with the TV unit and ceilings once rent payments stop.
- Durable matte laminates handle the corridor's dust and humidity well and are easier to maintain than high-gloss finishes on a limited budget.

Plan smarter
Five ways to keep your budget on track
- 01
List must-haves and good-to-haves
Write down what you need on day one, usually the kitchen and wardrobes, and what can wait. This list keeps the scope from growing during design.
- 02
Do not cut hardware first
If something has to give, reduce decorative work rather than hinges and channels. Cheap hardware in daily-use cabinets fails early.
- 03
Prefer standard module sizes
Standard cabinet widths cost less and are faster to produce than many small custom units. Ask your designer where standard sizes fit.
- 04
Avoid civil changes in phase one
Moving walls, plumbing or electrical points adds cost quickly. Work with the builder layout for the first phase where possible.
- 05
See materials in person
Showroom displays can be misleading. Look at laminate samples in your flat's light and ask about durability before choosing by appearance.

FAQ
Questions homeowners ask
Still unsure? Our designers are happy to answer anything on a call.
What is the minimum I should do before moving in?
Most families start with the kitchen and main wardrobes. Lighting, the TV unit and decor can usually wait without disrupting daily life.
Can I upgrade from Basic to Premium later?
Individual rooms can be upgraded later, though changing finished units is costlier than choosing well at the start. Your designer can help decide where an upgrade is most worthwhile.
Is laminate durable enough for daily use?
Good-quality laminates on BWP or HDHMR boards hold up well to daily use in Chennai homes. They are a sensible choice for kitchens and wardrobes on a budget.
Will a phased plan cost more overall?
It can slightly, due to separate visits and installations. Planning the full design upfront keeps later phases efficient and avoids reworking earlier units.
Are open shelves cheaper than closed cabinets?
Yes, but they gather dust quickly along OMR, especially near construction sites. Closed storage is usually more practical even if it costs a little more.
