Wardrobe Designers in OMR
In OMR's new gated-community flats, bedrooms often come with high ceilings, fixed window positions and a wall shared with the attached bathroom. Our wardrobe designers plan storage around these features, deciding how much hanging, shelving and drawer space each person needs before any shutter finish is chosen.

Our approach
How we handle wardrobe projects
What we plan for
- Hinged vs sliding shutters for the room width
- Hanging, shelf and drawer split per person
- Loft storage above the wardrobe
- Dresser and study integration
What drives the cost
- Wardrobe height and running length
- Shutter finish and mirror or glass panels
- Internal accessories like trouser pull-outs and jewellery trays
- Loft carcass vs shutters only
Materials we recommend
- BWP plywood carcasses with sealed edges for humid months
- Ventilation gaps to prevent musty smells in the monsoon
- Branded hinges and soft-close channels
- Off-white inner laminate as standard, coloured interiors as an upgrade
Mistakes to avoid
- Sliding shutters in rooms that are too narrow for them
- No planned spot for a dresser or mirror
- Skipping lofts in compact homes
- Choosing high-gloss finishes for kids rooms

Planning interiors in OMR
Chennai's IT corridor, lined with tech parks and large gated communities, where most homes are new apartments bought by IT professionals.
- Bedrooms in many corridor towers have enough ceiling height for a full loft above the wardrobe, which is useful for luggage, quilts and seasonal clothing.
- Walls shared with attached bathrooms can pick up moisture during the monsoon, so BWP plywood and ventilation gaps are recommended for wardrobes on those walls.
- Master bedrooms often have a dressing alcove near the bathroom, which is a good place for a dresser, mirror and jewellery drawers instead of the main wardrobe.
- Kids' rooms in these homes see heavy use, so matte, easy-clean shutters work better than high-gloss finishes that show fingerprints.

Plan smarter
Five ways to keep your budget on track
- 01
Plan the internal layout per person
Count long and short hanging, folded clothes and accessories for each person. Design the inside of the wardrobe around that, not a standard template.
- 02
Check room width for sliding shutters
Sliding doors need enough room width to work well. In narrow rooms they save space, but in very small rooms they can be awkward.
- 03
Leave space for a dresser or mirror
Plan where you will get ready each morning. A dresser or mirror shutter avoids crowding the bathroom or the bed.
- 04
Use lofts in compact rooms
A loft above the wardrobe adds storage without using floor space. In smaller bedrooms it is often the most cost-effective storage you can add.
- 05
Choose finishes for kids' rooms carefully
Matte laminates resist marks better than high-gloss options. Rounded edges and soft-close hinges also suit children's rooms.

FAQ
Questions homeowners ask
Still unsure? Our designers are happy to answer anything on a call.
Hinged or sliding, which wardrobe should I choose?
Sliding works best in narrow rooms where a door swing would hit the bed. Hinged shutters cost less and offer full access in rooms with enough clearance.
Can you add a study table to a wardrobe unit?
Yes. A fold-out or fixed desk can be built into a wardrobe run, which is popular in second bedrooms used for work. Room width decides what fits.
What internal accessories are worth adding?
Trouser pull-outs, drawer dividers and jewellery trays are useful. Start with what you need most and add others later if required.
Is a coloured interior laminate worth the upgrade?
Off-white interiors are standard and practical. Coloured interiors add a finishing touch but cost more, so many owners choose them only for the master wardrobe.
How do you prevent wardrobe doors from sagging over time?
We use branded hinges and proper shutter sizing, and recommend BWP plywood or HDHMR for stability. Regular adjustment of hinges also helps.
